Greater Charleston Federal Executive Association

Approximately 84 percent of all Federal employees work outside the national capital area functioning as the principal coordination between our Federal Government and the citizens of this country. The Greater Charleston Federal Executive Association (FEA) is an organization participating in the Federal Executive Board (FEB) program established in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy to support this coordination. There are currently 28 FEBs under the direction of the Office of Personnel Management located in cities that are major centers of Federal activity such as Atlanta, Chicago, etc. In cities such as Charleston where FEBs do not exist, Federal Executive Associations or Councils serve with similar purposes and objectives, but without the same full-time appointed staffs. The Greater Charleston Federal Executive Association provides oversight to the Combined Federal Campaign, sponsors the Federal Employee of the Year competition each year, and coordinates other matters of mutual interest to the Federal organizations in the area. Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month.

Federal Employee of the Year Competition

Since 1967 the Greater Charleston Federal Executive Association has sponsored the Federal Employee of the Year (FEOY) Awards Program as a means of publicizing the high caliber of devoted and dedicated civilian and military employees of the Federal service. The FEOY competition typically begins in February of each year. The Nominees must be either full-time civilian employees of the Federal Government or uniformed military personnel and must have served 12 months in federal service and at least six months in the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester area. Awards are issued primarily in recognition of exemplary job performance and contributions to the Government, public, or community, with other factors given appropriate consideration. There are nine different categories for competition. Each agency may nominate only one employee for each category.
